Professional Associations.
AMERICAN POLYGRAPH ASSOCIATION (A.P.A.)
The A.P.A. is the only professional polygraph organization recognized throughout the world. If the examiner you choose is not certified and listed by A.P.A., I would strongly recommend you choose another. Be aware, California is one of the few states which does not have current licensing laws for polygraph examiners. If your examiner is not listed in A.P.A., they may not be qualified for the type of testing you require.
CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF POLYGRAPH EXAMINERS (C.A.P.E.)
C.A.P.E. is the only organization in the state of California for professional/certified examiners. Beware of other associations using similar acronyms; there are several unqualified examiners operating throughout California and they want you to believe they are members in good standing with C.A.P.E.
AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF POLICE POLYGRAPHISTS (A.A.P.P.)
A.A.P.P. is the only professional organization recognized by all law enforcement agencies throughout the country. In addition to meeting the membership requirements set for A.P.A. and C.A.P.E., current or previous polygraph testing for a recognized law enforcement agency is also required for all members.

The above professional organizations have specific membership requirements including course completion from a recognized polygraph school, completion of an internship or field project, and participation in ongoing training and seminars. Polygraph examiners not meeting these requirements will not be accepted for membership in either professional organization.
AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF POLICE POLYGRAPHISTS
AAPP is the only professional organization recognized by all law enforcement agencies in the country. The requirements for membership essentially are the same as APA and CAPE plus you must have completed testing for a law enforcement agency.

Public Service Warning
Always use caution when selecting a Polygraph Examiner. If you find an examiner who is not a member of at least one of the aforementioned associations, there is probably a reason and it is recommended you continue your search for a competent examiner. We also recommend that you go to the following web site to research questionable examiners further before making your final selection.
